CAPM Practice: Determine how to conduct stakeholder communication

Executive summaries provide busy decision-makers with essential information quickly: what's the situation, what options were considered, what's recommended, and what action is needed. BAs use this format when escalating issues or presenting options to senior leadership.

**Why not B:** Executive summary format is not exclusive to executive presentations — BAs use it regularly. Any time a BA needs to communicate key findings, decisions, or recommendations to stakeholders who need a quick overview, an executive summary is appropriate. Claiming it is never used by BAs contradicts standard BA communication practices.

**Why not C:** An executive summary is not an attachment placed at the end of a document — it appears at the beginning. Its purpose is to give readers a quick understanding of the document's key points before they decide whether to read the full details. Placing it at the end defeats this purpose entirely and confuses it with a conclusion or appendix.

**Why not D:** An executive summary is not a personal document prepared by an executive for their own board presentations. It is a communication format that any professional — including BAs — can create to distill complex information into a concise overview. The "executive" in the name refers to the audience level and brevity of the format, not the author.
