Political awareness enables BAs to navigate organizational dynamics — understanding who really makes decisions (formal and informal), which stakeholders' opinions carry disproportionate weight, and how to position requirements for approval. Politically naive BAs find technically good requirements blocked by organizational resistance.

**Why not B:** National or external political events are an environmental risk consideration, not a BA core competency. Political awareness as a professional skill refers to navigating internal organizational dynamics — the informal power structures, alliances, and influence patterns within the organization itself.

**Why not C:** Regulatory knowledge is a domain expertise area, distinct from political awareness as a competency. Government regulations represent external compliance requirements, whereas political awareness addresses how decisions are made internally within the organization — who influences whom and how requirements gain approval.

**Why not D:** Knowing the formal org chart for escalation purposes is basic organizational knowledge, not political awareness. True political awareness encompasses the informal influence networks that often matter more than the official hierarchy — recognizing, for example, that a mid-level subject matter expert may have more de facto decision influence than their title suggests.
